Cuttack, June 18: Markatnagar police late Friday night nabbed five associates of gangster Tito, including the notorious Muna Laden, from a Kathajodi sand ghat.
Police said they have seized a gun, two rounds of bullets, two daggers, an iron rod, two bikes and six mobile phones from Muna Laden and Feroz Khan alias Babu of Banka Bazar, Chandan Jena alias Papu of Sartol, Sangram Rout of Balipada and Amulya Mahali of Kazipatna.
According to police, seven of Tito’s associates were preparing a blueprint to loot a petrol station and a commercial bank in Markatnagar area Friday night. On a tip-off, a special team led by assistant commissioner of police (Zone-3) Pramod Rath and Markatnagar police in-charge Bimal Kumar Barik raided the sand ghat and arrested five of the group. However, two associates of Tito managed to escape.
“Timely action by police has foiled Tito gang’s loot plan. We are conducting a series of raids to nab the two criminals who had given police a slip,” deputy commissioner of police Sanjeev Arora said. The arrested have been produced in court, he added.
Police said Muna Laden was involved in a series of crimes in Cuttack and Kendrapara districts since 1997. He has been booked in eight cases lodged in various police stations. “Feroz is a sharpshooter and he has expertise in bomb making too,” said a police officer.
Sources said Amulya, Chandan and Sangram were involved in several crimes in the city and its outskirts. “After the arrest of at least 35 members of Dhalasamanta gang, now the commissionerate police is trying to nab the members of Tito gang,” said the officer.
