Cuttack, March 26: Orissa players performed splendidly with five of them sharing the second spot with 4.5 points each after the completion of the fifth round on the second day of the IIIrd IS All India Fide Rating Chess Championships here, Saturday. The players are Shreyash Subham Patnaik, Chaitanya Rout, Avinash Baliarsingh, Manoranjan Rath and Shreejita Khuntia.
Samir Kumar Saha of West Bengal, Jayachandra Srinivas Vellanki of Tamil Nadu and Kishore Jha of Maharashtra are jointly leading the pack with five points each.
In the fifth round, Shreyash signed peace with Sarthak Singh Parihar. Chaitanya outwitted K Sai Raj Gopal, while Avinash held Ayantika Das. Manoranjan prevailed over P Shanmukh Teja and Shreejita got the better of Jeet Mohapatra.
Nagbali triumph
Nagbali emerged champions of the Dibakar Swain Memorial football tournament after scraping past Beleswar Club 5-3 via tie-breaker at the Naranpur Ground here Friday. The match ended goalless in regulation time.
Team selected
Wushu Association of Orissa (WAO) announced a 23-member state team Saturday for the Wushu Sub-Junior National Championships at Haridwar, March 27-30. The competition will be played under Sanshou and Taolu categories.
