Bhubaneswar, August 16: An elegant multimedia laser show and floating musical fountain will be held regularly to woo tourists and visitors to Puri scheduled to start in a few days. An enthusiastic tourism department claims the show will start in a couple of days.
According to officials Narendra Pokhari, a pond in Puri, has been equipped with the required apparatus to make it a fit site for the exhibition of the laser show which aims to beautify the tourist attraction with the aid of colourful lights which beam at particular trajectories and, in turn, add virtue to the structures around the spot.
The plan includes making space for a floating musical fountain and multimedia laser show. With the aid of technology the lights are complemented with graphics and sounds and images would be beamed on a white screen which would reflect the images on the surface of the water.
Officials say the stage is all set. Bijay Jena, tourist officer, Puri, said, “Preparations are in place to make sure the laser show starts as soon as possible. We have finished the trial runs. Some finishing touches are scheduled to take place in the next few days. In a span of 10-15 days the setup will be in place and the spot will be ready to welcome tourists.”
Jena added, “This is the second laser show destination in the eastern zone; there is one other in Kolkata.”
Orissa Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation was entrusted to execute the ambitious work. A Kolkata-based private body was also roped in by the authorities for value addition to the show within the estimated time limit.
The trial shows have already started attracting the attention of passersby. IDCO officials are inspecting the work and working on the final stages of the project. Multi-coloured lights have already been installed at the site.
At this heritage site Madanmohan along with other deities are taken for the 21-day water sport festival popularly known as Chandan Yatra, on the occasion of Akshay Tritiya. This ritual adds to the significance of the place which has now been given a much-required facelift through the proposed laser show.
State tourism minister Ashok Panda had said earlier the laser show would be modelled on the lines of the shows at Hussain Sagar and Gandhi Nagar’s Akshardham temple.
