Bhadrak: A pregnant woman in Odisha’s Bhadrak district was taken to a community health centre on a makeshift raft after floodwater cut off her village and prevented an ambulance from reaching her.
The incident took place in Dadhibamanpur Pal village under Jagannath Prasad panchayat in Basudevpur block, where the Mantei River is in spate, inundating several areas.
Pujarani Mallick, wife of Parshuram Mallick, went into labour as floodwater cut off the village. With roads submerged and no ambulance able to reach their home, her family removed a door from the house and used it as a makeshift stretcher to carry her through the floodwater to Basudevpur Community Health Centre.

Parshuram said the family had visited a government hospital three days earlier.
With roads inaccessible and emergency transport unable to reach the village, the family had no option but to use the door as a makeshift raft to take her to the health centre, he said.
