Flood fury in districts, major rivers in spate

Bhubaneswar, July 25: Flood waters have already entered several pockets in north Balasore district with the water level in three major rivers of north Orissa crossing the danger mark Tuesday. Accprdong to reports, the situation in Bhadrak, Keonjhar and Jajpur districts is also grim and the authorities have stepped up their preparedness for rescue-and-relief operations in the flooded areas.
Water in the Subarnarekha is flowing above the danger mark of 3.36 metres at Rajghat in Balasore following the opening of eight sluice gates each at Chandil dam and Galudih barrage in Jharkhand in the wake of heavy rains in the upper reaches Tuesday. So far, 3,329 cusec water has been released from the dams.
Many panchayats under Bhograi, Jaleswar, Baliapl and Basta blocks have already been flooded. Flood waters have also entered Kharid Pipal, Uluda, Aruhabruti, Manunagar, Hudapal, Harinakuli, Nathipur, Nayapalli, Barabatia, Mianpatana, Gabagaon, Hudapal and Jaladha, under Bhograi block; Bishnupur, Ikidapal, Rsalpur, Ramnagar, Jamkunda, Badhapal, Kulha, Kudman Singh, Debhoga and Nabara under Baliapal block; Churamara, Mankidia, Kunarpur, Raghunathpur, Gobarghata, Santoshpur and Nabara under Jaleswar block; in addition to several low-lying areas under Basta block.
