Baleshwar: The flood situation in Baleshwar district deteriorated as the Budhabalanga River crossed the danger mark and the Subarnarekha rose above its warning level following heavy rain in their upper catchments Saturday.
The Budhabalanga was flowing at 8.50 metres, above its danger mark of 8.13 metres, raising the risk of inundation in low-lying areas.
The Subarnarekha at Rajghat reached 10.15 metres against the warning level, while its danger mark is 10.36 metres. Authorities remained on alert as the river continued to flow at a high level.

The Jalka River has also swollen, adding to concerns over flooding in the district.
Rising water levels in the three rivers have affected six blocks — Baleshwar Sadar, Remuna, Basta, Baliapal, Jaleswar and Bhograi.
The rise in river levels has been attributed to heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas, which increased downstream discharge and intensified the flood situation.
