Purunakatak: Road communication on the old Jagannath Sadak connecting Harbhanga with Dhalpur was disrupted after water level rose in Mahanadi and floodwater flowed on the road triggering a flood situation, a report said Thursday.
This has sparked panic among the residents of 55 riparian villages under Harbhanga tehsil in Boudh district. The water level is rising in the river due to flood in river Tel and discharge of floodwater from Hirakud dam.
The floodwater was found flowing on old Jagannath Sadak at Dhalpur bridge, Bhejiguda bridge, Dianghat bridge and adjoining Kusasinga and Ramgarh nullah.
The floodwater in Marada nullah has marooned tribal-dominated Marada village, leaving 25 families stranded for the last four days.
The floodwater has also submerged paddy cultivation on hundreds of hectares of land in Harbhanga tehsil.
The district administration, apprehending possible flood, has issued warnings to the residents of 41 riverside villages under nine panchayats through public address systems to remain alert.
The administration has also appointed a nodal officer for each flood affected area and asked the tehsildars, BDOs, sarpanch, PEOs, GRSs and RIs to remain alert.
Collector Sitanshu Kumar Nayak, sub-collector NC Jyotiranjan Nayak and BDO Rabindra Kumar Satpathy reached Harbhanga and reviewed the situation. The Collector also directed the officials concerned to provide cooked food and relief materials in Marada village.
