Foeticide in Nayagarh: Unqualified doctor lands behind bars

Nayagarh: An unqualified doctor identified as Biswanath Ghadei who was involved in a recent case of abortion carried out at Ananda Bhawan Aditya Hospital and Clinic in Nayagarh town has landed behind bars.

This was informed by Additional SP Madhuri Samal at a presser held here Saturday evening.

According to a source, Nayagarh Collector Poma Tudu had directed officials concerned to conduct raids after two consecutive incidents of illegal abortion surfaced in the district in the last week.

Ghadei had allegedly assisted the health facility owner Satyapriya Swain.

Town police have included the name of Ghadei in a case (No-182/21) which was registered under Sections 312, 313, 417, 34 of IPC and Section 5 of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act, 1971.

The accused was forwarded to Nayagarh Sub-Jail earlier in the day as his bail plea was rejected in a local court, Town police station IIC Jaydeep Mohanty said.

During a detailed probe, it was ascertained that Ghadei was closely involved in the illegal activity. Initially, he had opened a clinic of his own at Chhayapatha Lane in the town, which was not registered.

The unqualified doctor had been carrying out surgical operations at his own health facility named Kalyani Clinic, the IIC added.
