Puri: A young foreign national was detained by Marine police Friday on charge of trespassing into Nuanai Nodal Upper Primary School at Beladala here and trying to teach the students of the school.
A laptop, a camera, a diary and some electronic devices were seized from the foreigner, whose visa mentions his name as Guru Dayal Singh of Toronto in Canada. “A visa was found from the foreigner’s bag. We have information that he had spent a few days in Varanasi and Himachal Pradesh before coming here,” said a police official.
Sources said the foreigner illegally entered a classroom of the school at 10.40 am and tried to teach the students. After a surprised headmistress, Pratibha Patnaik, opposed his act, he allegedly played music on his laptop on the school veranda.
When a few curious locals rushed to the school on learning of his presence there, the foreigner fled the spot, leaving behind his laptop and bag. His attempts to board a bus on the Puri-Konark Marine Drive road failed. Officials of Marine police overpowered him with the help of some locals and brought him to the police station.
Sources said police examined the contents of the foreign national’s bag and also sent him for a medical examination. Police said they are yet to collect detailed information about the foreigner. PNN
