Forester critically injured in elephant attack

Keonjhar: A forest official sustained critical injury in an elephant attack during an attempt to rescue the animal from a well at Bandhasahi of Singhapur village in Keonjhar district Saturday morning.

The forester, Tikayat Mohanta, was rushed to Keonjhar district hospital. His condition is stated to be critical.

According to reports, a herd of elephants had strayed into Bandhasahi Friday night. They entered a paddy field in search of food while two tuskers fell into a well.

On being informed, a team of forest officials Saturday morning rushed to the spot.

While the rescue operation was on, one elephant managed to get out of the well on its own. The officials had a tough time in rescuing the second tusker.

When the elephant finally came out of the well, people started running here and there. Tikayat also fell on the ground following which the elephant attacked him.
