Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court Saturday sentenced former principal of the Government Driving Training School, Bhubaneswar, Pravakar Behera, to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a disproportionate assets (DA) case.
The court also imposed a fine of `1 lakh on Behera, who had been chargesheeted by the Odisha Vigilance for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Behera, who has since retired, was convicted by Special Judge, Special Court, Vigilance, Bhubaneshwar, Asim Kumar Dalabehera, under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The conviction followed an investigation by the Odisha Vigilance into allegations that Behera had accumulated disproportionate assets during his service.
Following the conviction, the Odisha Vigilance said it would move the competent authority for stoppage of Behera’s pension in accordance with the applicable provisions.
