Four critical in Berhampur fire mishap

Berhampur: Two persons of a family, including a toddler, and two others sustained critical burn injuries following fire at a house at Gayatri Nagar near Berhampur first gate in Ganjam district Friday evening.

The injured persons were identified as the house owner Chittaranjan Panigrahi’s wife Sasmita, tenant Santosh Panda’s wife Santoshini, her son Madhav Panda (3) and another tenant Suryanarayan Panda.

According to reports, the incident took place when Sasmita and Santoshini were sitting on the staircase inside the house and Madhav was playing in a room.

Surya was sitting outside the building but suddenly fire broke out, injuring all of them.

On receipt of the information, fire service personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames. They also rescued the injured persons and admitted them to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

The exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.

However, it is suspected that there could have been a leak from LPG cylinder that was kept inside the house followed by an electrical short circuit.

Properties worth lakhs of rupees have been reduced to ashes in the massive blaze.
