Bhubaneswar, April 27: The four Orissa kids who were a part of the India under-14 football team that had gone to play a tournament in Kathmandu, returned to the city Monday. Janaki Murmu, Shanti Murmu, Bannya Kabiraj and Eva Panna were accorded a grand welcome on their return back home as relieved parents and friends flocked the airport.
Assistant coach Shradhanjali Samantray, who was also a part of the team however, stayed back at New Delhi due to some personal reasons. She will arrive Tuesday. The entire team was airlifted from Kathmandu along with 219 others from Kathmandu, Monday.
“It is by God’s grace that we have managed to arrive home back safe,” stated Janaki. Everywhere we went we saw death and devastation. At times we thought whether we would be able to come back and see our loved ones again. It was a horrific experience for all of us.”
