Bhanjanagar: Four suspected criminals were arrested after they threatened police personnel with a pistol while attempting to flee a vehicle check in Ganjam district, police said Saturday.
The accused were identified as Bhola Nahak, Bhagirathi Gouda, Belarsen Swain and Bansidhar Bisoyi. Police said they have several criminal cases, including murder, registered against them at different police stations across the district.
According to police, the four tried to speed away after spotting a vehicle-checking operation near Chakara Bi soyi Chhak Friday night. A police team chased and intercepted their vehicle, following which the accused allegedly brandished a pistol and threatened the officers.
They were eventually overpowered and taken into custody. Police said the four were escorting ganja traffickers. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway, SDPO Deepak Mishra said.
