Peshawar: Four TTP militants were killed Thursday after law enforcement officials thwarted a vehicle-borne suicide attack on a security post in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said.

Security personnel intercepted the explosives-laden vehicle before it could reach its target in the South Waziristan district’s Wana town.

Following the failed suicide bombing attempt at the Kari Kot post, an exchange of fire took place between security forces and the attackers, during which four militants, including the suicide bomber, were killed.

The militants were affiliated with ‘Fitna al-Khawarij’, police said, referring to the term the state uses for the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliates.

No casualties were reported among security forces during the operation, according to officials.

Security officials said a search and clearance operation is underway in the area to trace and eliminate any remaining militants.

The Kari Kot post in Wana plays a key role in maintaining law and order and ensuring residents’ safety. The post has also been instrumental in preventing the movement of militants towards Wana Bazaar, making it a likely target for the attackers.

The TTP, also known as the Pakistan Taliban, was set up as an umbrella group of several militant outfits in 2007.
