From hardship to success: Daily wage worker’s daughter tops university

Bolangir: Revati Swain, daughter of a daily wage labourer from Bolangir district, has emerged as topper in the postgraduate examinations at Rajendra University, securing a CGPA of 9.67 and earning widespread praise for her achievement.

A student of the Department of Zoology, Revati topped the university after the results were announced Friday evening. Her success has drawn attention across the district, with many hailing her determination and perseverance in overcoming financial hardships.

Revati’s father, Santosh Swain, works as a daily wage labourer, while her mother, Jayanti Swain, is a homemaker. The family, originally from Kulthipali village under Puintala block, moved to Bolangir in 2021 to provide better educational opportunities for their children.

Living in a rented house at Gandhinagar Pada, Santosh has been supporting the education of his two daughters, Revati and Sebati, and son Raja through daily wage work.

Revati said she aspires to become a scientist and contribute to the development of medicines for cancer patients. She credited her parents, teachers, professors, university authorities, siblings and mentors for her success.

Following news of her achievement, Odisha Health Minister and local MLA Mukesh Mahaling congratulated her and extended financial assistance. He also assured support for her future studies, according to sources.
