Berhampur: Police arrested Wednesday a man on charges of abducting and killing his seven-year-old nephew Ashish Anshuman alias Ayush of Sadananda Vihar from the latter’s house in Gosaninuagaon area in Ganjam district, January 12.
Police said that the accused was in a one-sided relationship with the boy’s mother. After he failed in his attempts to woo her, he vented his frustrations by killing the boy. The accused has been identified as Debasish Panda of Jajpur area.
According to the police, the boy had gone missing since January 12. His mother had lodged an FIR at Gosaninuagaon police station. Investigations revealed that Panda, a distant relative of Ayush had kidnapped the minor boy on the pretext of dropping him at school on the same day.
Police detained Panda for interrogation in connection with the incident. During questioning the accused broke down and confessed that he had stoned Ayush to death inside Tara Tarini forest. He also disclosed that he was madly in love with the minor’s mother. But as he failed to evoke a proper response from her, he decided to kill the boy.
Police has seized the two-wheeler on which Panda took Ayush to the forest and visited the crime scene to recover the body of Ayush. The video of Panda taking the boy on a scooter has also been captured on a CCTV camera.
