G Udayagiri Traders’ Association observes weekend shutdown to limit COVID-19 spread 

G Udayagiri: In an attempt to stop the spread of coronavirus, the G Udayagiri Traders’ Association is observing a 48-hour shutdown starting Saturday. All the shops and markets in the town were seen closed amid the shutdown call.

The traders have also decided that they will open their shops from 7am to 4pm Monday onwards. Besides, the 48hr weekend shutdown will continue in coming weeks, an office-bearer of the Association said.

The traders’ association has also urged the people not to come out of their houses unless there is an emergency.

Kandhamal district Saturday reported 32 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the district’s tally to 4,677. While 4,085 patients have so far recovered from the disease, 569 are still undergoing treatment. The killer disease has so far claimed 23 lives in the district.

Earlier, Jharsuguda Chamber of Commerce and Karanjia Businessmen’s Association in Mayurbhanj had taken similar decisions to curb the spread of the disease in their respective areas. While the Jharsuguda Chamber of Commerce had observed a seven-day long shutdown that ended October 2, Karanjia Businessmen’s Association observed a three-day-shutdown that ended September 30.
