Gajapati dist teachers told to send selfies

Paralakhemundi: The education department has asked school teachers of Gajapati district to send through WhatsApp their selfies taken inside their classrooms and a snapshot of the attendance register to higher authorities.

A circular was issued by the higher authorities regarding this August 19, and physical presence of teachers on school premises was made mandatory from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.

However, the teachers are offended by this dictatorial rule. A meeting of teachers’ associations held at the local Srigundicha temple Tuesday unanimously protested against this move of the Gajapati DEO.

They said all primary schools in the state operate from 10 am to 4 pm and that how can the schools of Gajapati district have different timings. The circular is intended to create instability and put pressure on teachers, they said.

There are already senior officials like the Cluster Resource Centre Coordinator (CRCC), BRCC, ABEO, BEO and DLO to monitor day to day affairs in schools, the teachers said. The 4,000 teachers in Gajapati district will be forced to protest if the circular is not withdrawn, they warned.
