Puri: Using ice cream sticks, a 19-year-old student has given shape to his imagination in the most creative way. The result is a beautiful idol of Lord Ganesha.
This young artisan is Biswajit Nayak of Kumutipatana in Puri town.
A second-year Diploma student, Biswajit says he has had his name already registered in the India Book of Records. “I built ‘Nandighosha’, the chariot of Lord Jagannath in last June. I had used 2,575 ice cream sticks to give it its final shape. It took me ten days. For this miniature, I have had my name registered in India Book of Records.”
This young miniature artist’s next aim is to have his name registered in Asia Book of Records.
“Eyeing for my entry into Asia Book of Records, I have built the statue of Lord Ganesh, measuring 55-inch high and 33-inch width. A total of 5,575 ice cream sticks have been used. I took 30 days to complete the statue. I have applied for Asia book of Records. If I am asked for details, I will furnish them all,” he says.
When asked about his first tryst with miniature making with ice cream sticks, he replies, “Then I was a Class VII student. One day, the idea of making a Lord Jagannath’s statue with ice cream sticks came to my mind. Then I started working on it.
Seeing my creation of Lord Jagannath sitting on the throne, my family members, relatives and friends appreciated my work. This appreciation and praise made me dream for making something different,” he expressed with excitement.
