Gangrape video goes viral

Chhendipada: After the video of her gang rape went viral on social media, the victim filed a complaint with the police here in Angul district Tuesday.

Based on her complaint, the police registered a case and launched a manhunt for the two rapists.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred a few days ago when the victim had gone to a pond in the village to take bath. Meanwhile, the two youths forcibly took her to a bush and raped.

The two recorded the act in their mobile phones and threatened to circulate the video if she revealed the incident to anyone. Later, one of the accused tried to blackmail the victim with the video. He also went to her home when the family members were away and threatened her with dire consequences if she refused to cooperate with him.

The victim snatched his phone and tried to delete the videos but the man overpowered her. However, when the youth was trying to strangle her, the victim’s father reached home and saved her.

The youth also assaulted her father and threatened them with dire consequences, the complaint said. Fearing for their lives and public stigma, the family and the girl remained silent about the incident.

Later, the victim lodged a complaint with police after learning that the rapists had circulated the video on social media.

“A probe is on and the accused will be arrested soon,” DSP Umesh Kumar Panda said.
