Gangster Tito’s aide killed in encounter

Nayagarh: Police have gunned down dreaded criminal Chagala, an aide of gangster Tito, in an encounter at Nabaghanpur village under Sadar police limits here late Thursday night.

As per police sources, Chagala and his associates were preparing the blueprint for a crime at Nabaghanpur. Acting on a tip-off, a police team rushed to the spot. When the criminals saw the police, they opened fire to escape. In retaliation, the police too fired back, injuring Chagala. However, his associates managed to escape.

A country-made pistol and two bullets were seized from the spot.

Chagala, who received bullet injuries on both legs, was rushed to the district headquarters hospital. Later, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to sources, Chagala was a close aide of gangster Tito and more than 50 cases of murder, extortion and bombing were pending against his name at different police stations across the state. Police had been on the lookout for him for a while.

Earlier, gangster Tito had sustained bullet injuries on his leg in a police encounter near Chandikhole June 30 and was arrested.

 

STF raids Tito’s properties, businesses

 

Kendrapara: The Crime Branch’s Special Task Force (STF) led by DIG Himanshu Lal raided the house of arrested gangster Tito and other places in Kendrapara Friday to find his links with the underworld. The STF seized incriminating documents during the raid.

STF raided Tito’s mutt in Dilwarpur village. They also raided the house of his four younger brothers and the office of Sappu, another brother of Tito, in Dilwarpur.

The STF did not find anything except six bank passbooks and cheque books of Benazir Bibi, the wife of Tito.

Later, they raided Sumbul Traders on bypass road and found several incriminating documents on Tito’s business empire. The STF got evidence and documents about Tito’s sand lease business and his transport and petrol pump businesses in Kendrapara .The team also seized some PAN numbers of the gangster’s family members.

The team also raided Benazir Infrastructure Private Limited (BIPL) and Sayed Brothers’ filling station in Kendrapara and seized important documents.

DIG Himanshu Lal said, “We found several incriminating documents on Tito’s businesses. Raids were conducted simultaneously in Cuttack and two places in Paradip to seize documents on Tito’s scrap trade, stevedores business in his wife’s name and heavy vehicle transport business named 4T Association.”

The STF sealed BIPL, Sumbul Traders and Sayed Brothers’ Filling Station in Kendrapara.

The team also seized 17 lorries, eight excavators and one trailer from BIPL stockyard meant for supplying material to the Haridaspur-Paradip railway line project near Gopa Chowk on NH-5(A).

Last Saturday, the STF had raided Tito’s house at Dilwarpur and arrested him and his six associates, while they were planning an armed robbery.
