Daringbadi: Cyclone Arnab has disrupted normal life in Daringbadi block of Kandhamala district, damaging roads and triggering landslides at several locations, causing inconvenience to residents.
A fresh landslide was reported in the Gazalbadi Ghat section along National Highway 59, which connects Gopalpur in Ganjam district with Raipur in Chhattisgarh. Timely precautionary measures by the administration are believed to have averted a major accident.
As a precaution, the Baimala check post in Kandhamala district and Gazalbadi in Ganjam district were sealed Monday afternoon. Daringbadi police inspector-in-charge Sangram Keshari Jena visited the area to assess the situation after receiving information about the potential danger.
During the visit, he found that the landslide had occurred beyond the Rasikijodi bridge in the ghat section, bringing the incident to light. Meanwhile, residents of Didrabadi village under Ward 15 of Badabanga panchayat have been cut off from the outside world following a landslide on a nearby hill.
A paved road constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana by the Rural Development Department connects the panchayat to Chitrabadi village.
However, water flowing down the hill has triggered the collapse of soil and rocks, leaving the road covered with mud and debris and making it resemble agricultural land. No vehicles are currently plying on the route, and residents are unable to access emergency services.
Naib sarpanch Deba ki Bindhani, who belongs to Didrabadi village, has demanded that the damaged road be repaired at the earliest to restore connectivity.
