Angul: A girl from Kumand village in this district who had accused her mother of adultery and torture through a video uploaded in Facebook that went viral has attempted suicide. She consumed a high dose of anti-depressants Thursday, and her condition remained critical, police said.
The girl was the daughter of one Pradeep Kaumar Sahu. The victim did so at a friend’s house where she sought shelter after being tortured and thrown out of home by her mother. Hours after posting a video again on her Facebook wall, she swallowed anti-depression tablets, and then wrote about her extreme step.
The girl’s friend’s family members found her in a critical condition and rushed her to the Angul district hospital where her condition was stated critical.
May 18, the girl had uploaded two videos on her facebook wall, accusing her mother of committing adultery and inflicting mental and physical torture on her when she demanded of the woman to mend her ways. One of the videos taken at her home features her mother abusing the girl and threatening to burn her alive.
In the second video, the girl is seen accusing her mother of having illicit relations with some men and suggesting her to do such things. The victim can be heard seeking the immediate intervention of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
