Girl escapes murder bid by demented ex

Paradip: In a shocking incident, a man after being cheated by his girlfriend tried to shoot her to death Friday night. He reportedly shot two rounds at the girl. Fortunately, the girl was saved by a whisker as the bullets narrowly missed her, sources said, adding that one of the bullets lightly grazed her hand.

The accused was identified as Jagbandhu Mahapatra. He fled the scene after the incident. Paradip ASP Gadadhar Padhani reached the spot and seized the empty cartridges while a manhunt was launched to nab the accused.

Police registered a case over a complaint by the girl’s father and began a probe into the incident. According to sources, Jagbandhu was in a relationship with the girl. However, Jagbandhu learnt the girl was in a relationship with another youth.

In a fit of rage, he plotted to eliminate her. In the absence of the girl’s parents, he stormed into her house and began fighting with her. Later, he whipped out a gun and tried to shoot her in the head. However, the girl ducked and the bullet hit the wall. Jagbandhu fired a second time, and this time the bullet grazed her hand slightly.

Locals on hearing the gunshots rushed to the spot and rescued the girl. Jagbandhu managed to escape from the spot. The girl was admitted to Biju Memorial Hospital. PNN
