Daringbadi: A 23-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth of the locality on fake promises of job here in Kandhamal district. The matter came to the fore after the victim lodged a complaint with Brahmanigaon police.

In the absence of a police IIC in Brahmanigaon police station, Kandhamal SP Pratik Singh directed Daringbadi IIC Alekh Garadia to launch a probe into the matter.

Taking the matter seriously, IIC Alekh with the help of Brahmanigaon OIC Jayachandra Mallick arrested the accused Monday night. He has been identified as Ajit Sobhanayak, a resident of Sramagudi village under Katingia panchayat of Brahmanigaon police limits.

According to the complainant, Ajit lured the girl on false promise of providing her a job in Berhampur. He then took her on the pretext of interview and kept her in a lodge where he repeatedly raped her.

Since then, he had been raping the girl on several occasions, by pushing the job interview dates on some or the other pretext. He had also managed to click pictures and record the intimate moments in his mobile phone.

Meanwhile, the girl’s parents arranged her marriage with another youth of the locality. Enraged, Ajit circulated the videos and obscene pictures on social media platforms that have gone viral in the area.

Left with no option, the victim approached the police for help to stop the circulation of the intimate videos and pictures and arrest of the accused. On the other hand, the accused claimed that the girl was in a love relationship with him and later cheated on him and was going to marry another youth.

Meanwhile, the police sent the girl for medical examination Tuesday morning while a police team conducted probe in various lodges Ajit had taken the girl. Necessary action will be taken after the probe, police said.

 

Minor raped, accused held

R. Udayagiri: A minor girl was allegedly raped by a youth while she had gone to take bath in a pond nearby the village under this police limits in Gajapati district.

Acting on the complaint, police swung into action and arrested the accused identified as Pintu Nayak of the same locality. Even as the incident occurred November 16, the matter came to the fore Tuesday after the victim’s father lodged a written complaint with the police Tuesday.

According to sources, the girl had gone alone to take bath in a pond. Finding the girl alone, Nayak gagged her and took her to an isolated place where he outraged her modesty. He then threatened the girl with life is she disclosed the matter. The girl returned home and narrated her ordeal to her father who approached the village committee for help. However, Nayak was absconding since the incident so the village committee failed to take any decision in this regard.

So, the girl’s father lodged a complaint with the police after which the arrest was made.
