Goa bowlers restrict Tripura

Bhubaneswar: Left-arm spinner Shadab Jakati (4/67) and pacer SS Bandekar (3/44) bowled well in tandem to put Goa in command on the opening day of their four-day Ranji Trophy fixture against Tripura at the KIIT Cricket Stadium here Wednesday. Tripura were bowled out for 283 in their first essay. Stumps were called 10 overs earlier due to poor light.
Tripura could have been in a precarious position, but for a fighting seventh wicket stand between Rajat Dey (87, 104b, 6×4, 3×6) and Abhijit Dey (58, 103b, 8×4, 1×6). Among others, Smit Patel (26), Yashpal Singh (35) and MB Murasingh (29) got starts but failed to capitalise.
Good recovery
In the other Group C encounter played at the DRIEMS ground in Tangi, Tamil Nadu ended the day on 262 for four against Madhya Pradesh riding on a brilliant knock from Dinesh Karthik (95, 153b, 15×4).
In spite of being reduced to 1/2, Tamil Nadu recovered as the middle-order batted well. Karthik and Kaushik Gandhi (71 batting, 232b, 11×4) put on 143 runs for the fourth wicket to fashion their recovery. After Karthik’s dismissal, Gandhi and Baba Indrajith (44 batting, 80b, 7×4) have so far put on an unfinished stand of 64 runs for the fifth wicket.
