Bhadrak: Luck ran out for two miscreants as they were nabbed by people at Medical Chowk in Bhadrak town Saturday while trying to snatch a gold necklace from a woman.
After beating them up, people handed over the accused duo to the police. The miscreants have been identified as Manpreet Singh and Mulayam Singh. It is suspected that they are residents of Chhattisgarh and had been active in the locality for some days.
According to a source, Narendra Prasad Das and his wife Saswati Das were having some snacks at a milk parlour at Medical Chowk. The accused duo riding a motorcycle stopped at the parlour. One of them came to the shop and acting like a customer and asked for a certain beverage. The very next moment, before the couple could realise what was happening, one of them tried to snatch away Saswati’s necklace. However, she resisted and cried for help.
The bystanders immediately swung into action and nabbed the accused.
Meanwhile, the one who was waiting for his accomplice on the motorcycle tried to escape from the spot by intimidating locals with a sharp weapon. However, he was also overpowered. Angry locals roughed them up.
On being informed, a team from Bhadrak town police station reached the spot and took the accused duo into their custody. A detailed investigation to know their criminal antecedents is underway, it was learnt.
