Gold seized at BPIA again

 

Bhubaneswar: Authorities of the Air Intelligence unit (AIU) have thwarted yet another attempt of gold smuggling in Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here Wednesday night.

The officers recovered four gold strips of foreign origin from the luggage of a passenger, who had arrived at the airport by an AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur.

Acting on intelligence input, the officers intercepted a passenger, a resident of Chennai. The authorities searched her baggage and found the gold that she had concealed in aluminium linings of her trolley bag. The gold weighed 690 gram and is valued at Rs 21.8 lakh approximately.

Two passengers were arrested by the AIU of Customs for smuggling four pieces of cylindrical gold bars of foreign origin worth Rs 10.5 lakh August 29. Both of them were from Chennai. They had reached here in an AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur. Gold weighing 340.07 gram was recovered by the authorities during search of their baggage.
