Mobile users across the country Friday received an emergency alert message from the government of India. Doesn’t matter if you received it or not, here we have brought all the details in it.
The Government of India in collaboration with different telecom service providers are testing its emergency alert message system. In this test, the alert pops up on the user’s mobile screen, making a loud alarm-like sound.
The alert message is titled “required monthly test” and the message reads “This is a test alert, please ignore.”
Here are the contents of the alert message:
The emergency alert message says, “This is a SAMPLE TESTING MESSAGE sent through the Cell Broadcasting System by the Department of Telecommunication, Government of India.”
“Please ignore this message as no action is required from your end. This message has been sent to TEST Pan-India Emergency Alert System being implemented by National Disaster Management Authority. It aims to enhance public safety and provide timely alerts during emergencies,” it further explains.
Users received the alert message around 12:30 in the afternoon.
Netizens, shocked and excited, started reacting on the issue on different social platforms including X.

Such alert system could actually play an important role in prompt dissemination of information, real-time updates and alerts saving lives and reducing damage in India during natural disasters including floods, tsunamis and earthquakes.
Other than disasters, such facilities could also be crucial during health hazards, as witnessed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The government is currently working on the alert system’s effectiveness and it is expected that mobile users could receive similar messages in coming weeks.
The Department of Telecommunication has informed that similar tests will be conducted from time to time across different regions of the country.
