Bhubaneswar: Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati Sunday emphasised the vital role of value-based education in shaping a peaceful and progressive society, urging teachers to nurture character alongside knowledge in students.
Addressing the inauguration of the value education programme for teachers at the Ramakrishna Mission’s Vivekananda Hall, the governor quoted Swami Vivekananda’s words, stating that education is not merely the accumulation of information but a manifestation of inner perfection, strength and character.
Extending his greetings to the participants, Kambhampati lauded Ramakrishna Mission for its longstanding contributions to education, social service, and spiritual awakening.
Inspired by the ideals of Ramakrishna Paramahansa and Swami Vivekananda, the governor said, “The mission has consistently promoted a balanced system of education that integrates intellectual, moral, and spiritual growth.”
Highlighting India’s rich civilisational ethos, the governor noted that traditional education systems emphasised values such as truth, righteousness, peace, love and non-violence.
“These are not merely ideals but principles to be practised in everyday life,” he said.
Referring to the current global scenario marked by conflicts and instability, he emphasised the need to promote understanding, tolerance, and dialogue.
He stressed that teachers play a pivotal role as mentors and nation-builders, shaping young minds through both guidance and example.
The governor called upon teachers to guide at least one student towards becoming fearless in thought, compassionate in action, and committed to the service of humanity, asserting that even a single transformed individual can contribute significantly to societal change.
He also said that values should not just be taught from books, but lived and experienced in daily life.
Encouraging teachers to keep improving themselves, he added that institutions should create an environment that promotes ethics, social responsibility, and a spirit of service.
