Bhubaneswar, March 24: In a move to prepare the students to face a competitive environment, the government has asked the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state to intensify career counselling programmes and encourage students to join the ITIs. The government has also issued guidelines to improve the infrastructure at the ITIs.
The ITIs will prepare their annual prospectus highlighting various facilities available at the institute, success stories and other related issues for larger public awareness. The ITI principals will also have to visit the schools and counsel the students of Class IX and X. The counselling would be conducted during November to January every year.
The students will be briefed about skills training and other aspects of the institute. Leaflets and broachers will also be distributed among the students. The high school head, district education officer and district employment officer may be roped in for the purpose.
The target group for skills training could be a woman, an orphan, a child labourer, and other needy people. Training, counselling and placement cell of the institute should also act as a career guidance centre for counselling of new entrants.
The ITIs would be asked to construct an equipment maintenance cell that would be manned by trained faculties. The principals would have to ensure that no equipment or computer or any sort of gadget remains idle.
