Govt going online for pension benefits

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to ensure hassle-free processing of pension applications, the state government is going online for persons eligible to get this benefit.

Now, retiring or retired government employees and legal heirs of deceased government servants eligible for family or life time arrear (LTA) pension can submit their pension applications in the prescribed format on the website of Integrated Financial Management System (www.odishatreasury.gov.in).

According to an official memorandum issued by the Finance department, after detailed verification of records available, the head of office would forward the pension application along with the service book to the pension sanctioning authority for onward transmission of pension papers to the pension issuing authority.

As per the earlier manual system, there used to be a high degree of physical intervention in all stages.

“The retiring/ retired government employee, family pension applicant remains unaware of the developments taking place in various offices in different stages of pension application processing. Often the retiring / retired employee / family pension applicant has to run from one office to another to know the status of processing of his/her pension application,” the department’s memorandum said.

From now on, the online pension module will be used by the pension applicant, head of office, pension sanctioning authority and pension issuing authority to process the pension applications.  The applicant can track the status of his/her application through this process.

However, the government has not scrapped the movement of hard copy files from the bottom to the top. At every stage of passing, the application in hard copy format will also go along with the online mode, sources said.
