Govt reaches out to people in distress

Bhubaneswar: Acting upon three reports published in the Orissa POST recently, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi issued direction to the district administration concerned for reaching out to the people in distress.

After going through a report titled “With Mom dead, father in jail, 3 kids left to fend for themselves,” published December 14 this year, Padhi has deputed a team led by Cuttack collector to the village on the same day. The team found the children in distress and immediately rescued them, said an official from the office of the Chief Secretary.

The three kids — Ram, Baj and Mohan — were in distress after the death of their mother Buduni Soren and father Karuna Soren (45) was put in jail for alleged links with criminals.

As no one was there to take care of the three kids, they were produced before the Child Welfare Committee and finally sheltered in the child home Vasundhara in Bidanasi area of Cuttack for their protection, care and education, the official said here Friday.

Similarly, reacting to another news report titled “Elderly woman lives in toilet” published on the same day in OP, the Chief Secretary has ordered the district administration of Dhenkanal to include the woman under rural housing and old age pension schemes. The woman is Kundi Rout of Mota village under Kamakhyanagar block in Dhenkanal.

The district and block administration concerned has already started taking action in this regard, said the officials, adding, assistance would be provided to the woman within the shortest possible time.

The government has also reached out to Panu Mandal, who was deprived of pension despite attaining the age of 75, following the publication of a report in this regard in OP, December 11.

The Nayagarh collector has been instructed to include Panu under National Food Security Act (NFSA) and old age pension scheme. The office of the CS said that relief would be provided to him shortly. Panu lives with his wife in Darpanarayanpur village in the Ranpur block of this district.  PNN
