Govt reduces Bus fares across categories

Bhubaneswar: The state government Thursday reduced bus fares for all categories of services.
The fares for ordinary and express buses have been slashed by 1 paisa per kilometer (km) and that of deluxe and A/C deluxe buses by 2 paise per km, according to transport department sources.
Fares for ordinary buses have been reduced to 55 paise per km from the existing 56 paise per km, while fares for express buses have been slashed to 58 paise per km from 59 pasie per km, according to the notification issued by the
department.
Under the revised rate, fares for deluxe buses have been slashed to 74 pasie per km from 76 pasie per km while fares for A/C deluxe buses have been reduced to 95 paise per km from 97 pasie per km.
The revised bus fare will be effective from today, said commerce and transport minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi.
The revision has been done against the backdrop of decreasing fuel prices.
Earlier, the government had reduced bus fares in August under the automatic fare revision mechanism that came into effect in June 2015.
