Bhubaneswar: In a significant initiative to strengthen industrial safety and foster a culture of accident prevention across Odisha, the state government Tuesday released “Suraksha Setu: Industrial Safety & Risk Management Manual”, a comprehensive guide aimed at improving workplace safety practices in factories and industrial establishments. The manual was formally released by Forest, Environment & Climate Change and Labour & Employees’ State Insurance Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia.
Speaking on the occasion, Singkhuntia emphasised the importance of spreading safe ty awareness among workers, employees and industrial establishments. “Widespread dissemination of safety knowledge will enable industrial establishments, workers and employees to identify and eliminate unsafe practices and conditions at their workplaces. The active participation of all stakeholders is essential to achieving our goal of zero industrial accidents in the state,” he said.
Expressing confidence that industries across Odisha would benefit from the publication, the minister said effective implementation of the guidelines contained in the manual would go a long way in enhancing workplace safety and preventing industrial accidents. Developed as a practical and user-friendly reference guide, the manual is designed for workers, supervisors, safety professionals, managers and other stakeholders involved in industrial operations.
The publication provides easily accessible guidance on key aspects of industrial safety and risk management, including hazard identification, risk assessment, safe work procedures, accident prevention and emergency preparedness. The manual brings together essential principles and best practices in a simple and accessible format, enabling stakeholders to better understand workplace risks and adopt appropriate preventive measures.
The Labour & Employees’ State Insurance Department said the manual is expected to play an important role in enhancing safety awareness and promoting safe work practices among workers and other stakeholders. It will also contribute towards developing and strengthening a safety-oriented culture in industrial establishments, with the larger objective of ensuring safer and healthier workplaces across Odisha. The initiative reflects the state government’s continued commitment to worker safety, prevention of industrial accidents and promotion of a safe and healthy working environment in industries across the state. The release ceremony was attended by Labour & ESI Department Principal Secretary Dodda Venkata Swamy, Labour Commissioner and Director of Factories & Boilers Indramani Tripathy and Deputy Director (Safety) Malay Kumar Pradhan, among others.
