Govt releases Rs 6.9cr flood aid

Bhubaneswar: Life in flood affected areas of Jajpur and Kendrapara districts is slowly limping back to normalcy as the water level of Brahmani has receded significantly, officials at Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) office said Monday adding, the government had released `6.9 crore as flood assistance.
Reports said Brahmani at Jenapur was flowing at 63 ft against the danger level (DL) of 67 ft and that of Kharasrota at Binjharpur at 9.60 metre against the DL of 10.30 metre at 10am Monday.
Cooked food through free kitchens is being provided to 17,662 people who were evacuated to safer places in Jajpur district. Dry food was also being distributed, officials said, adding, restoration work of Brahmani’s left embankment, which witnessed a breach at Bankasahi in Bari Block July 29, commenced Monday.
The SRC office said following the directive of Chief Minister and as per the assessment reports submitted by the district collectors, `6.9 crore had been sanctioned Monday by the SRC. The amount will be disbursed among the flood-hit families of Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.
It is learnt that 524 families whose houses have been fully damaged will receive `1,01,900 while 4,499 families will receive `3,200 (for partly damaged kutcha houses) and `5,200 (for partly damaged pucca houses).
Likewise, `4,100 will be disbursed to those with damaged huts and 113 will receive assistance of `2,100 for damages to their cattle sheds.
The government will provide `9,43,200 as clothing assistance (at `1,800 per family) and `10,48,000 towards utensils (at `2,000 per family) to 524 affected families whose houses were fully damaged or submerged for more than two days.
The collectors have been directed to ensure proper enumeration by keeping photographs of the damaged houses with the beneficiaries on record and disburse the amount by through bank accounts. The collectors have also been asked to upload the list of beneficiaries with the amount of assistance paid in the district website.
