Bhubaneswar, May 4: In what occurs to be a serious loophole in the decision-making of the government, seven aspiring Ayurveda students have been deprived of admission despite qualifying in the Orissa Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE).
Seven students reportedly appeared the entrance exam last year and got rank cards. After not getting selected in the second round of counselling, six of them got admission through spot counselling into Indira Gandhi Memorial Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital here and one in Mayurbhanj Homoeopathic Medical College Hospital in Baripada.
OJEE, conducted by Employment, Technical Education and Training (ETET) department, conducted two rounds of counselling of students for admission into Bachelors of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course for the 2014-15 session.
According to records, OJEE has admitted 24 candidates into Indira Gandhi Memorial Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital last year after which six seats remained vacant in the college.
In the meantime, the Union government extended the last date of admissions to BAMS course till November 30, 2014 and asked to fill the remaining seats before the cut-off date.
The Ayush directorate here sent proposals to the ETET department to conduct third phase of counselling to fill the remaining six seats and one seat at Mayurbhanj Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital November 28, 2014.
“After the Union government extended the cut-off dates for admission, Ayush directorate here intimated us the same in a very short period of time, making it impossible for us to conduct spot counselling,” said an official at the OJEE office.
Meanwhile, college authorities informed the Ayush directorate that they have filled the remaining seats before the cut-off date of admission. An official of the directorate has been asked to enquire into the matter.
“After enquiry, we have found that seven students have got admission without their names being sponsored by OJEE chairman last year and we have intimated the same to the government,” said the official.
The government has asked officials to take necessary steps and scrap the admission of all seven students and take necessary action against the college authorities.
