Bhubaneswar, Nov 3: The state government will launch the Pucca Ghar Yojana for construction workers in December, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced Tuesday.
The move will benefit thousands of such workers who do not have proper shelter, he said.
The Chief Minister had in September said during a meeting of the Construction Workers Welfare Board his government would float housing and pension scheme for the construction workers of the state.
This will benefit construction workers who have been registered under the Orissa Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Boards for five years or more. Under the scheme, a family of a construction worker including the husband, wife and unmarried children will be considered as one unit. However, workers availing benefits of other housing schemes of the government will not be eligible to apply under this scheme.
The district-level monitoring committee on labour will shortlist the beneficiaries and send the list to the Construction Workers Welfare Board, following which the annual work schedule will be fixed for construction of the pucca houses.
The Panchayati Raj department will monitor the housing scheme in which Rs 1 lakh will be spent by the government for the beneficiaries, sources said. A budget provision of Rs 30 crore would be made for 3,000 beneficiaries, officials said. The department will finish the construction of houses within a year of receiving such work order.
The state labour commissioner will be the nodal officer for monitoring the implementation and progress of the scheme.
The Chief Minister has said that importance should be given to backward districts in the implementation of the scheme.
