Bhubaneswar: The state government Friday asked all district magistrates (DMs) to be prepared to tackle possible flood or waterlogging.
Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi has written to all collectors, revenue divisional magistrates (RDCs) and concerned police officers in this regard.
Sethi’s caution comes in the wake of IMD indicating that under the influence of the low pressure area formed northwest Bay of Bengal and the neighbourhood, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in different districts with extremely heavy rainfall at some places between July 20 and 22.
“Field functionaries may be instructed to remain present at their respective headquarters and respond to emergency situation. District emergency operation centre (EOC) must function round the clock,” the SRC directed.
The collectors were also instructed to inform the state EOC, functioning at the office of SRC, in case of any adverse situation.
Speaking on Malkangiri’s road connectivity woes due to incessant rain, Sethi said, “Malkangiri has received more rainfall than last year. This is why some water bodies have overtopped their banks and flooded the streets. However, there are very less chances of people getting displaced due to it.”
Meanwhile, Health and Family Welfare Secretary Pramod Kumar Meherda has also asked collectors and all chief district medical officers to be ready to ensure proper hygiene and safety of pregnant women.
