Bhubaneswar: The Bakul Foundation library Friday hosted Rooting for Resilience, a transformative event here on its premises to create awareness about job opportunities available in climate sector, a segment expected to generate approximately 3.7 million jobs in the country by 2030.
This event was a collaborative effort by the Bakul Foundation, Youth for Water, IYCN, ASAR and the Sustera Foundation. The programme brought together nearly 40 young aspirants from across Odisha. Deepa A, Sanju Soman, and Roshni from the Sustera Foundation were the key speakers at the event. They shared insights on the importance of climate jobs and the necessary skills required. “Climate-related activity is not just volunteerism; it is more than that. As we continue to see the impacts of climate change, the demand for climate change jobs continues to rise. There are many climate-related jobs, such as urban planners, environmental data analysts, and environmental technicians and engineers, that offer good remuneration and incentives,” said Sanju.
Sujit Mahapatra, founder of the Bakul Foundation, played a crucial role in the success of the event. The gathering also featured a collaborative activity where participants identified the major critical climate-related challenges faced by Odisha. The event served as a significant networking platform, showcasing the enthusiasm and potential of Odisha’s youth. It underscored the state’s vulnerability to climate change impacts and its capacity to become a hub for green jobs and enterprises. By scaling up training programmes and skilling the youth, Odisha can lead the way in the climate sector, turning challenges into opportunities, added other speakers.
