Nayagarh: Tension gripped Khuntubandh village under Nuagaon block in Nayagarh district following a group clash between people of two communities over construction of a boundary wall of an Anganwadi centre Friday.
As many as eight persons including three media persons sustained injuries in the clash. The media persons had to face the wrath of the mob, it was learnt. The mob snatched away their cameras, mobile phones and other electronic devices and detained them before they were rescued by the police.
To bring the situation under control, a police team had to be deployed in the village. A case was registered based on a complaint by three media persons and a probe was launched.
According to sources, a group had taken the contract to construct the boundary wall of the local Anganwadi centre. However, another group objected to the construction work that led to an altercation between the two groups.
The angry villagers pelted stones and attacked each other with lathis that soon led to a clash. Some of them went on and vandalised each others’ houses. On learning the incident, four media persons reached the village and tried to collect news. However, they were attacked by the villagers.
Nayagarh SDPO Jayaram Satapathy along with a police team reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The injured media persons were then rescued and admitted to the local hospital. The village wore a deserted look when this report was filed. PNN
