Pottangi, June 6: A group of Maoists killed a village guard of Petru gram panchayat in Koraput district Friday evening suspecting him to be a police informer. The deceased village guard was identified as Khila Jaga.
According to report, the incident occurred between 7pm and 8pm. Three suspected Maoists came to the house of Khila while he was gossiping with his family members and called him out. As soon as he went out of his house, they first shot at him. He sustained bullet injuries and tried to flee the spot. He entered his house when the attackers chased him and killed him by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon before leaving the spot.
The ultras, however, left a letter at the spot which said the deceased village guard was a police informer. The letter had suggested that Khila had been cooperating with the security agencies in carrying out combing operation against the Maoists. He was also threatening villagers that he would send them to jail by implicating them in false cases, the rebels have stated in the letter and claimed they had warned him of consequences if he indulged in his anti-Maoist activities.
Although the police were informed of the incident, they did not go to the spot immediately. Interestingly, a police team posing themselves as newsmen went to the spot late friday and seized the letter left by the ultras. They also took photographs of Khila.
