Bhubaneswar: In a move that will boost tourist inflow to Puri, the state government has initiated a new project called ‘Jagannath Prakalpa’ to set up guest houses of different states in the pilgrim city.
A decision to this effect was taken by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Tuesday here after he chaired a review meeting in this regard.
“Different states have evinced interest to set up their guest houses in Puri. The state government has decided to develop these guest houses under Jagannath Prakalpa. The project will be developed over 34 acres of land,” said officials in the chief minister’s office.
Officials informed that government will provide the infrastructure support for the project. Under the project all required facilities and amenities will be developed.
Apart from Atithi Bhawans, the government will also set up parks and a market complex. The street lights to be installed inside the project area will use solar power, officials said.
During the meeting the Chief Minister also reviewed steps taken by the local administration for ‘Habisialis’ who visit Puri during the holy month of Kartik.
This year the government has set up makeshift camp facility for 2,000 ‘Habisialis’. The ‘Habisialis’ interested in residing in these temporary shelters will have to apply by October 7. They can also apply online, officials informed.
Patnaik, meanwhile, directed the officials to increase this facility next year to accommodate more ‘Habisialis’.
