Rayagada/Gunupur: P Rajesh, 42, an assistant revenue inspector (ARI) at the Gunupur tehsil office in Rayagada district, died after falling ill while playing cricket Sunday.
Rajesh was playing at the RCC playground near the IEACR College when he complained of feeling unwell and informed fellow players.
Shortly afterwards, he reportedly became dizzy and collapsed. Other players rushed him to the district headquarters hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Rajesh was a resident of Yedu Sahi in Rayagada town.
Rayagada police are investigating the incident. He had earlier worked in Gudari for about eight years before being transferred to Mu niguda and was currently posted as an ARI in Gunupur. His sudden death has cast a pall of gloom among colleagues, acquaintances and well-wishers.
Rayagada MLA Appala Swamy Kadraka and councillor Santosh Dalai expressed grief over his death.
