Guv Jamir opens philatelic expo

Bhubaneswar Sept 30: Three day long stamp exhibition ‘Naturepex’ organised by The Eastern India Philatelic Association (EIPA) was inaugurated in Bhubaneswar Friday by Governor S C Jamir. The exhibition would conclude October 2. More than 200 people participated and 400 frames were exhibited at the event.

The stamps shown in the exhibition covered a large range of environment related subjects ranging from greenhouse effect and pollution to imbalance in our ecology. EIPA organised the event in collaboration with India Post and KIIT International School. Governor Jamir spoke on the hobby of stamp collection and how it enhances ones knowledge.

Bijoyshree Routray, president of EIPA, said that exhibition was being held with the objective of spreading awareness for the protection of nature and conserving the environment. Anil Dhir, coordinator of ‘Naturepex’, said: “The exhibition will help in popularising the hobby of philately for students of the present generation.

Philatelists from the state have made their mark both in the country and abroad. ‘India Post’ should hold more district and state level exhibitions in the state to promote the activity.” Anil added that the exhibition was competitive in nature and medals would be given in different categories and they had tried to emphasize the youth philatelists.

Bibhudatta Mishra, head of the philatelic activity committee of ‘Naturepex’, said: “A series of activities like quiz, stamp designing, letter writing and the likes will be conducted among the participating school-goers.” He said that the organization was receiving good response from philatelists nationwide and that they were planning to organise exhibitions of such nature in future. The event was organised at KIIT premises. Dr Achyuta Samanta, founder of KIIT and KISS present on the occasion said, “We are very proud to host the exhibition. Such activities are important for students as it broadens their horizon.”
