Bhubaneswar: The capacity of the Hindustan Aeronautic Limited (HAL) factory in Sunabeda will be doubled soon, Union defence minister Manohar Parrikar said here Sunday.
“We have decided to double the capacity of the HAL MIG factory in Sunabeda in two to four years. Work in this regard will be started in the next six-seven months,” Parrikar said.
The ministry also plans to expand the capacity of the ordnance factory at Badmal in Bolangir district, he said.
The defence minister said the Centre is taking all possible steps to create employment opportunities in the state.
Parrikar highlighted the achievements of the BJP government at the Centre and said what has been done in the last two years was not done in the last 50 years. In the last couple of years, 21.7 crore people have opened zero balance bank accounts and about 70 per cent of them have deposited a total of Rs 37,700 crore in banks, the Union minister said. As many as 1.2 crore people have not taken gas subsidy, he said. About 3.5 crore fake LPG connections have been cancelled and this has led to a revenue surplus of Rs 17,000 crore, he said.
The defence minister quoted former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and said only 15 per cent of the benefits were reaching the people. Now after direct transfer of cash to beneficiaries, people are getting the full advantage, he claimed. “This is the success of the NDA government,” he said.
Parrikar claimed that the people have availed Rs 63,000 crore under 59 different schemes of the central government.
He also said Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister to have come out to give an account of his government’s work to people after completion of two years in office.
