HAL contractors held on charges of financial irregularities

Koraput: Launching a crackdown of graft-tainted officials of Hindustan aeronautics Limited (HAL) here, Sunabeda Police Saturday arrested at least three contractors for their alleged involvement in financial irregularities to the tune of crore.

The three have been identified as Urdhab Khusla, G.Sudan Khusla and Sadananda Nayak.

Police suspect the trio of being involved in a financial irregularity of more than Rs 1 crore.

The arrested trio came under the scanner of the police after it was found that Rs 45 lakh had been fraudulently transferred to their bank accounts. HAL’s senior manager (finance), Bhaben Maitra, who is still absconding, has embezzled the money, informed Sunabeda Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Niranjan Behera.

All the accused contractors have been arrested and they will be forwarded to court soon, Behera added.

Notably, Maitra who was facing an inquiry into financial irregularities fled after burning official documents and currency notes worth Rs 1.67 lakh last Sunday. Later, HAL Internal Vigilance Department and Sunabeda Police jointly raided Maitra’s official residence. He is absconding since then.
