BHUBANESWAR: Fashion designer Sujit Meher exhibited his latest Sambalpuri handloom collection styled ‘Story of Tradition’ during an event organised by Juhar Parivaar at Tyagraj Nagar Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. Sujit said, “Every year, during Nuakhai Festival, I launch my collection, because I feel that there can’t be a better occasion than this festival, which is one of the key festivals of Orissa for promoting Sambalpuri handlooms.” “Story of Tradition tells about the richness of our traditions, culture and the beauty of the Sambalpuri fabric. I have tried to blend Sambalpuri fabric with some different kind of rich cotton and silk to give it a trendy new look. Clothes play the most significant role during festivals and other occasions, and people don’t want to compromise with this. I hope the collection I created will make someone’s special occasions more beautiful,” he said. His collections of women’s wear
and men’s wear included both Indian and Indo-western collections like lehenga, ghagra, shirt and western dress. “For the last couple of months, people were requesting me to create something for wedding and they were enthusiastic about it. So, unlike other designers, I feel that I should create and launch designs on people’s demand, not as per a celebrity’s demand. This is because I feel the common people are my celebrities. And I want to make them more beautiful,” he said.
