Mumbai: Raaj kumar was born Tuesday. He was very bold in personal life.
Raaj kumar came to Bombay (now Mumbai) in 1940 and started working as sub-inspector. People from film industry often used to hit the police station where Raaj kumar was inspector for shooting purpose. Once, filmmaker Baldev Dubey turned up at the police station for some important work. He was impressed by Raaj Kumar’s style of talking and offered him role in his film. Raaj Kumar immediately accepted it and resigned from his job.
Once during journey, Raaj kumar met flight attendant Jennifer. Later he got married to Jennifer and Jennifer changed her name to Gayatri as per Hindu customs. They had three children, sons Puru Raajkumar (a Hindi film actor), Panini Raajkumar and daughter Vastavikta Pandit, who made her screen debut in 2006 film Eight: The Power of Shani.
Raaj kumar and Govinda were spending time after their shooting. The Raaj kumar told Govinda, “Your shirt is very good.” Govinda was very happy after hearing this and said, “Sir, if you like this shirt, then you keep it.” Raajkumar took the shirt from Govinda. Govinda was happy that Raajkumar will wear his shirt. But two days later, Govinda saw that Raajkumar had made a handkerchief from that shirt.
It was said that there was a time when Raajkumar met megastar Amitabh Bachchan at a party and he praised his foreign suit. Amitabh was happy and wanted to tell them the address of that place, the RaajKumar replied that he wanted to sew some curtains. Hearing this, Big B could not do anything except smile.
Singer Bappi Lahiri sports lot of jewellery. Once at a party, musician Bappi encountered Raajkumar. At the party, the actor saw Bappi from top to bottom and then said in his own style, “Wow, great! You ornaments you are wearing are beautiful, only Mangalsutra is missing, wear that one also.” This statement shocked Bappi Lahiri.
